With Easter just 2 weeks away, we’ve started our Easter crafts! And, of course, I had to make it a recycled craft by using up some toilet paper rolls I had been collecting.

Here are my supplies for this project:

The supplies needed for the toilet paper roll bunny

To make this cute little bunny, start by cutting the toilet paper roll slightly off center. This will make a smaller head and a larger body. See the picture below for reference.

Second, stack the smaller toilet paper roll on top and staple them together.

Third, paint the bunny your preferred color (I chose white) or just color him with markers like my kids chose to do.

While the paint is drying, cut out some bunny ears and feet. The ears I cut out were about 2 inches tall and 3/4 inches wide. For the feet, I cut out a rectangular strip of paper that was 4 inches by 1 inch. I folded it on itself the long way and stapled it to the bottom for each foot. This helped the little guy to be able to stand up!

Staple on the bunny feet

Then, glue the ears to the back of the head and a pom pom ball for the nose and tail.

Lastly, draw a cute little bunny face and add some googley eyes if you’d like.

Toilet paper roll bunnies

So I always like to include some form of learning in all of my crafts. So while we were creating our bunny rabbits we talked about what bunnies eat, where they live, what they’re called, etc. Here are some fun facts to help lead your discussion:

  • A female bunny is called a doe, while a male bunny is called a buck
  • A baby bunny is called a kit or kitten
  • Bunnies usually live in an underground burrow in groups of bunnies.
  • Multiple burrows connected by tunnels are called a warren.
  • Bunnies have about 4 inch long ears and eyes on the side of the head that allows them to almost see all the way around them. This helps them detect a predator.
  • Bunnies are herbivores, meaning they eat plants. They can eat carrots but carrots are not a natural part of their diet.
  • Bunnies can reproduce very quickly producing up to 14 kittens in just 28-31 days of gestation.
  • Bunnies purr, like cats, when they’re happy and they will do a binky which is a happy leap with twists and kicks
