Looking for a fun craft idea to do with your kids during the holidays? Here’s a fun one that combines a couple different art techniques into one to create a pretty cool ornament!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- A spin art machine (I got mine for $1 from the Dollar Tree) or a salad spinner
- White cardstock
- Scissors
- Painters tape
- Festive String
- Paint (We use Crayola Washable paint)
Here’s how to make the tape resist spin art ornaments:
- Use the scissors to cut the white cardstock into a circle. Our circles were about 3 inches in diameter so they were small enough to fit in our spin art machine
- Get a strip of painters tape and cut it into a festive shape like a Christmas tree, snowflake, candy cane, stocking, snowman, etc
- Tip: You can line up 2 strips of tape beside each other and slightly overlap them so they make a larger square of tape
- Stick the piece of tape on the white cardstock and place it into you spin art machine (or salad spinner)
- Drip paint onto the circle in whatever type of design you’d like. We had a 3 year old and a 5 year old making ours so they just randomly dripped paint everywhere.
- Then press the spin lever so that your paper spins causing the paint to move and create a cool marble-like design on the paper. See how cool our spin designs turned out in the picture below
- Let the paint fully dry and then carefully peel off the tape to reveal your tape resist design
- Then tape or glue a piece of festive string to the back creating a loop that can be hung on the Christmas tree.
Happy Holidays!
