My 2 year old LOVES painting! She asks me just about everyday if we can paint. So, I thought this craft up with her in mind. I challenged her and my 4 year old son to get creative and explore our house for different textures and patterns that we could transform into stamps. With it being springtime, I set the theme to spring flowers.
We mainly searched around the kitchen and art stash and found several things to use as flower stamps:
- A fork
- A half of a lime (I cleaned out my fridge for this one)
- A twisted pipe cleaner (We twisted the pipe cleaner into a spiral and then bent the end of the pipe cleaner up to create a handle for the stamp)
- Marker lids and a marker bottom (To make this, I used the bottom of a marker as the center of the flower and then used a rubber band to hold 5 marker lids around it to form the petals)
Additional supplies:
- Washable paint
- Paint brushes
- Construction paper
- Green marker
To create this flower stamp craft:
- Draw several green stems on the bottom half of the construction paper
- Paint the flower stamps or dip them in paint and stamp them randomly onto the paper to create a field of flowers
- For the marker stamp, paint the center marker bottom yellow to create a defined flower center. Then paint the outer marker lids a different color to differentiate the petals.
- For the lime stamp, dip the lime in paint. Then use the paint brush to apply a drop of paint to the center to define the flowers center.
- For the pipe cleaner and fork, just dip in paint and press the stamp to the paper
Here are our final products:
The purple flower is the result from the lime stamp. I was a little unsure how it would turn out but I think it turned out the best.
We had a great time getting creative and making our own stamps. I hope your family enjoys this craft just as much!
