Supplies needed to make blow art turkeys:
- Watercolor paints – I’ve linked the jumbo watercolor paints that we’re using in our tutorial. The jumbo size is perfect for smaller kids.
- Cups – The cups we’re using in our tutorial are from the bear sorting kit that I’ve linked below. We use these a lot for our rice sensory bins. They are awesome and we get a lot of use out of them.
- Water
- Droppers – I have linked the kid sized droppers that we used below
- Paintbrush
- Watercolor paper – You definitely need to use watercolor paper for this craft because its thicker and able to handle the water that we’re going to be putting on it. The watercolor paper I linked below is my favorite that wont get soggy or rip when adding watercolor paint.
- Construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue stick
How to make blow art turkeys:
1. Fill each cup with a dropperful of water
2. Then wet your paint brush and roll it around in the watercolor paint to fully coat your brush
3. Take your coated brush and rinse it off in the cup with the dropperful of water. This is turning that dropperful of water the color of the paint that was just added
4. Repeat steps 1 through 3 for however many colors you’d like to have. I did one cup for each of the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.
5. Now use the dropper to drop the watercolor paint onto the watercolor paper around the center of the page.
Tip: I definitely recommend to use watercolor paper for this project because it’s a thicker type of paper that’s able to hold the watercolor paints without getting soggy and ripping or crumpling up.
6. Then, use the straw to blow the watercolor droplet up and outward toward the edge of the paper
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 with different paint colors all throughout the paper.
Tip: Try to have the droplets all blown upward and outward so they kind of fan out like turkey feathers.
8. Once you have all the blown feathers your want, allow it to dry fully
9. Use the construction paper and scissors to cut out a turkey body, beak, and snood
10. Then glue to turkey body, peak, snood, and googly eyes right below the blown feathers to complete your blow art turkey.
I love the way these turned out. They look so abstract and colorful. I hope you loved this craft as much as us. If so, check out some of our other Thanksgiving crafts and activities that are linked below. Happy Thanksgiving!
