Ok who needs a sweet way to turn your child’s handwritten name into a special keepsake that you can look back on for years? Me! What if you take their sweet little name that was handwritten by them and turned it into a magnet to put on your fridge? Then you can use their name magnet to display all their artwork, good grades, etc on the fridge. I love this idea so much! Keep reading if you’re interested in how to make these keepsake magnets too.

Supplies Needed to Make the Keepsake Magnet
Below are all of the supplies that were used to make these keepsake magnets. You can click on each product name to see the exact item that we recommend.
- Cardstock paper – If you’ve read some of my previous posts than you know that I swear by this white printable cardstock paper. It’s the absolute best! If you don’t want a white magnet like me, then this colorful cardstock is a great choice too. I definitely recommend cardstock though so the magnet has some thickness to it.
- Markers – These dual tip markers are a must! They come with a fine tip on one end and a regular tip on the other end. So they are very versatile.
- Rectangular Epoxy Stickers – The stickers that are linked here are the exact same ones that I used for my magnets. They worked great and were a good size to perfectly cover the name.
- Adhesive Magnetic Squares – These are awesome peel and stick magnetic squares that already have the adhesive applied to them.
- Scissors – Regular craft scissors will work for this project. I’ve linked some pretty awesome titanium scissors here.
How to Make the Keepsake Magnets
1. Have your child write their name on a sheet of cardstock paper using a marker. Make sure they are writing their name small enough to fit within the edges of the epoxy sticker (1 inch tall by 2 inches long)
2. Peel off one epoxy sticker and place it over the entire name. Press down on the sticker to make sure it adheres fully.
3. Then use the scissors to carefully cut around the epoxy sticker. You now have a nice epoxy coating over the name to help keep it protected.
4. Flip the epoxied name over and stick an adhesive magnet to the back.
5. Your magnet is done! Now you can stick the keepsake magnet to you fridge or whatever metal surface you’d like.
6. Then repeat! Be warned, your kids will want to keep making more. So have fun making more magnets out of their precious drawings. We drew flowers, hearts, our family, princesses, etc. Check out the picture of my daughter’s flower magnet below.
