Ok whose family LOVES Elf on the Shelf during Christmas time and all the shenanigans their elf brings to their home? We do! My kids go crazy for it. So hear me out. What if your Christmas Elf on the Shelf sends one of his best buds, the leprechaun elf, to check in on your family during the month of March? He’ll arrive on March 1st to visit with the family and bring a fun St. Patrick’s Day themed craft, activity, or funny antic each day leading up to St. Patrick’s Day. Then on St. Patrick’s Day he’ll head home and help to chase all the mean and sneaky leprechauns toward to kids’ leprechaun traps.
Are you on board yet? Well the company Elf Mates came out with a couple different themed elves and one of them is a red headed cobbler elf that looks just like a leprechaun. I’ve linked this Elf Mates elves right here. Check out the picture below too to see how perfect he is!

When this cunning fella arrived at our house on March 1st, he brought a letter for my kids introducing himself and how our Christmas Elf on the Shelf, Tommy Tibbles, had sent him. His letter read:
“Hi kids,
My good elf friend, Tommy Tibbles, has sent me to check in on his favorite family. I’ll be here during the month of March to enjoy all the St. Patrick’s Day festivities. However, I have to warn you that I am a leprechaun and am sneaky by nature. So, please excuse me if I get into a little mischief. I am so happy to be here and meet everyone!
Love, Your Leprechaun Elf
P.S. Can you all agree on a name to give me?”
You can check out the picture below of the full letter that arrive with Patrick, our newly named leprechaun.

My kids went absolutely crazy for this new leprechaun elf. They wake up every morning searching for him. Some days he’s just hanging from the ceiling fan cord with his Velcro hands or climbing to the top of the kitchen cabinets or cooking a meal in my daughter’s Barbie house. Below I have shared some of our favorite leprechaun Elf on the Shelf ideas, so check them out to get some inspiration.
Green Pee in the Toilet
We’ve had our leprechaun elf for a while, so here’s another arrival idea that you can check out in the picture below. Our leprechaun elf had a long trip here and needed to go potty. So he used the kids toilet and left behind some green pee!

Leprechaun Trap Supplies
The leprechaun just HAD to bring supplies for the kids to make leprechaun traps! So one morning we woke up to lots of Dollar Tree craft supplies and recycled materials all over the table to make our own leprechaun traps. Check out our Instagram video below of when the leprechaun brought all the supplies.
Leprechaun Magic Trick

This one was a hit! Patrick brought a magic trick that would cause the shamrock coloring page to magically become colored. He asked the kids to place the picture in the magical tray and when they did it instantly became colored. Check out the picture below of the magically colored picture.

You can read the full tutorial for how to set up this magic trick by clicking the blog post below.
Bring Supplies to Make Shamrock Suncatchers

We always love to make crafts at our house, so we’re definitely down to get crafty if our elf brings craft supplies. Check out the post linked below to see how to make these shamrock suncatchers.
Leprechaun Coloring Pages
Another day he printed off some free leprechaun coloring pages and spilled markers everywhere. Then he left a note asking if anyone wants to color with him. This one was another hit in my house. Check out the picture below of his color activity.

Silly Jokes
Our leprechaun elf is a real jokester and brings all the best jokes. Here are a few of his favorites:
1. What do librarians take fishing? Bookworms!
Check out the picture below for his fun set up.

2. Why didn’t the toilet paper cross the road? He got stuck in the crack! (The butt crack!)
Ok, I don’t know about your family, but butt jokes always get a belly laugh in my house!

Playing in the Barbie House
Another morning he decided to take a poop in our Barbie dolls toilet. This was, of course, so hilarious to the kids. You can get one of these play toilets at Dollar Tree. Check out the picture below to see all the fun!

Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt
The leprechaun has also sent the kids on a crazy scavenger hunt throughout our house in search of him. Check out our blog post below about setting up an awesome St. Patrick’s Day scavenger hunt and get the free printable clues while you’re at it.
Bringing Green Swag and Saying His Goodbyes
On St. Patrick’s Day Eve, our leprechaun elf brought some green glasses and socks so each kid had something green to wear the next day to keep them from getting pinched. He also said his goodbyes because he was going to be chasing all the mean leprechauns toward the leprechaun traps on his way home tomorrow. So he let each kid give him a hug because once he got home he’d have all his magic recharged. Check out the picture below to see his set up and note.

St. Patrick’s Day Departure
Then on St. Patrick’s Day he’ll leave behind some chocolate coins in their leprechaun traps to entice all the mean leprechauns into the traps. He’ll also leave a sweet little farewell note as he heads back home to tell his Christmas Elf friend all about the fun he had.
I’ll keep adding to this post as our elf brings cool new ideas so keep checking back. Also comment below with any great ideas that your elf has come up with too!
