Supplies Needed to Make Custom Magnets

Below are all of the supplies that were used to make these custom magnets. You can click on each product name to see the exact item that we recommend.

  • Cardstock paper – If you’ve read some of my previous posts then you know that I swear by this white printable cardstock. It’s the absolute best and is great for some on my free printables that you can also check out on our website! I definitely recommend using cardstock though so the magnet has some thickness to it.
  • Markers – These dual tip markers are a must! They come with a fine tip on one end and a regular tip on the other end. So they are very versatile.
  • Circular Epoxy Stickers – The stickers that are linked here are the exact same ones that I used for my magnets. They worked great and were a good size to perfectly cover the name. These are 1 inch diameter stickers. They also come in 2 inch diameter epoxy stickers if you’d like a larger version.
  • Adhesive Magnetic Squares – These are awesome peel and stick magnetic squares that already have the adhesive applied to them.
  • Scissors – Regular craft scissors will work for this project. I’ve linked some pretty awesome titanium scissors here.

How to Make Custom Magnets

1. Have your child draw some beautiful artwork on a sheet of cardstock paper using markers. Scribbles are welcome! I think cardstock and markers work best because the cardstock gives the magnet some thickness and the markers are more vibrant and easier to see. Also I don’t think crayons would be a good option because the waxiness from them may cause the epoxy sticker not to adhere as well.

2. Peel off one epoxy sticker and place it over the artwork. Press down on the sticker to make sure it adheres fully.

3. Then use the scissors to carefully cut around the epoxy sticker. You now have a nice epoxy coating over the artwork to help keep it protected.

4. Flip the epoxied artwork over and stick an adhesive magnet to the back.

5. Your magnet is done! Check out how cute my 4 year old daughter’s sweet little heart magnet turned out in the picture below. Now you can stick the custom magnet to your fridge or whatever metal surface you’d like.
